Chesterfield Pagans Samhain Open Ritual

Our Samhain Ritual is fast approaching, if you want to come and help us celebrate for the last time at our Hasfest and moot venue please do. The pub who's grounds we use is being sold and so looks unlikely that we will be able to hold events there any more, but it has been a fantastic few years holding Hasfest and Samhain Rituals there.
The moots are moving to the Spital Pub, Spital which is just outside Chesterfield town center (a few minutes walk, it has a large car park as well) still on the 2nd Tuesday of each month starting November please do come along enjoy a chat and maybe a workshop/talk.

As previous years, this will be an open ritual for all of any tradition or path to attend to remember their ancestors and those family and friends who have travelled the Long Path. This years ritual will be distinctly heathen in theme and celebrating the Night of Ancestors.

There will be the familiar remembrance table for you to put photographs on of those people you want to remember, and light a candle in their honour. There will also be a reflective space for those wanting a quiet moment or two. Fancy dress is welcome, especially for children, and the popular pumpkin carving competition is back, so bring yours along if you’re feeling orangeryily artistic to be in with a chance of being awarded a prize from our judge.
During the ritual there will be a time for anyone who has letters or cards to send to bring them to the fire and burn them to send the words into the spirit realms. You are welcome to write as many letters or cards to as many different people as you like, just remember to address the envelopes with the persons name!

Afterwards food, please bring some to share, drumming - remember to bring your drum if you have one, pumpkin competition, general getting together:0)

Ritual starting around 7.30pm, 26th October 2012 at the New Inn, 229 Mansfield Road, Chesterfield S41 0JJ

Silver Triple Moon and Golden Leaping Hare, a photo by Dawn* on Flickr.
This is the Triple Moon and Hare I had on my soldering block ready to finish a while ago that I showed as wip, thought I'd better take a photo to show you the finished necklace:0) Sterling Silver Triplemoon with a textured finish to the crescents, waning and waxing with the full moon buffed to a shine. The spiral golden brass hare leaps across across the front of it. Working on a similar piece now with a crescent moon and hare. I don't seem to be able to reply to comments, will have to have to try and sort that, thank you for any comments that have been left, I appreciate them x

Triskele, Hare & Moon Necklace

Crescent moon hare, triskele necklace
Pin It

After spending up till easter this year trudging down to my workspace at the bottom of the garden in wellies through the snow I have decided to move into the house for the winter.  Although the weather is still glorious at the moment and I will miss going down there while it is nice and checking how well the weeds are doing, I am loving the almost spider free space, brighter light and more room of working in the house, with running water and kettle near by and it should be warmer when the weather does change.

This Triskele, Hare & Crescent Moon with little star Necklace is the first thing I have made in my new workspace, all totally handmade.  The Hare is hand sawn from brass sheet and the moon and star from sterling silver sheet, all the other parts are sterling silver too including the hand formed Triskele.  The moon can be a New Crescent Moon or a Waning Moon depending on your mood as it is reversible.  I'm tempted to keep it as it looks lovely on but will list it on my Morning Star Craft website soon.  Oh and I must remember to give measurements too.
Have now put this necklace on the website and am trying to update other parts of it too:0)

Hand flowers and Ribbon Wrap Bracelets

Have been making some more handflowers or slave bracelets and ribbon wrap bracelets.   My son says my armless model ;0) looks a bit creepy, but not sure how else to show them, my nails after bending metal and being up the garden aren't lovely enough to be in the photo.  What do you think, creepy, good, bad?

Feeling a little batty;0)  There's a small bat on the extender chain as well.  Or maybe butterflies are more your thing, this one has a beaded ring and small butterfly charms.

The different hues in each of the hand dyed ribbons are gorgeous.  They wrap about 3 times around your wrist and have a sliding spiral bead to help with fastening.  The ends can either be tuck in or left loose to dangle. There are moons, fairies, goddess, dragonflies, pentacles, unicorns, dragons, and wild animals, tiger, lion, monkey, giraffe, elephant is one your animal guide?

This bottom one with the pentacle, turquoise crescent moon and goddess hasn't got a slider bead as although they all would make lovely anklets as well as bracelets I think this one would be an ideal one for an anklet.  Some of them would make great necklaces too, so three in one, can't be bad;0)  I'll be bringing some of these along to the Derbyshire Pagans Lammas Camp along with some more of my jewellery, including some feathered arm bands which I thought would look great worn with sleeveless tops in the hot weather.

Allotment doings.

It's just been lightening spectacularly.  Red sheet lightening brightening the sky and bright fork lightening shooting across accompanied by deep rumbles, but still no rain.  Just as well I water the allotment earlier, should have done the garden as well.

The artichoke is growing well, lots of heads on it, looking forward to harvesting it and seeing what it tastes like, it looks pretty good when you first come onto the allotment.

The slightly cooler weather has brought the slugs out in force, they were chomping their way though the strawberries and have taken bites out of loads, hoping that the frog I disturbed in the strawberry patch will come back.  I don't know where the frog goes to keep cool, not seen any ponds or puddles around our end of the allotments.

There was a dark black spider with bright red spots on his back up by the brassicas, don't know if we have poisonous spiders now, but he sure looked as though he wanted to be.

Sweetcorn is poking it's furry end out of the middle of the leaves, the courgettes are growing, will be able to pick some soon I hope, have just pop the first few pea pods (it's like eating sweets),  there are small tomatoes on the plants in the well ventilated green house (most of the glass is missing lol).  The strawberries are still producing and the raspberries are snidered with juicy plump fruit, yum:0)

Ribbon Wrap Bracelets

Soft ribbon of many hues with beads and charms - fairy, leaf, mushroom, flower and butterfly.  Wraps around the wrist about three times, ends can be left dangling for a floaty feeling or tucked in, has an adjustable slide fastening to make putting on easier.

Lovely shades on this ribbon with a complimenting silk cord, beads, flowers and silver coloured charms - goddess, feather, sun, leaf and a faux pearl to represent the full moon.

They make great anklets too.  Ask for one without the sliding fastener though if wanting to wear like this as it makes it easier to wrap around ankles without.

They also make lovely necklaces, three in one, fab for holidays;0)

Spring Equinox

Blessed Ostara, Spring Equinox, the balance of day and night, coming of warmth and new life, even if it is still snowing here today!

The Black Birds in the garden are gathering nest building materials I can see them hopping about with leaves and things in their beaks, the Robin's chest is still as bright as ever, and the Ringnecked Doves have been checking out the Silver Birch again.  The Hazel is full of yellow catkins, yes even though the weather is still cold, spring is stirring:0)

Grove Altar
Labyrinth & Green Lady

Drumming and fire

Hasfest looks set to be as great as usual even though this may be the last year it is held due to developers wanting to build houses on our grove and across where we have the firepit and all areas surrounding it.  There has been a protest about the development as the residents in the area don't want their green space built on either and we were hoping to help them in their fight against the plans, as a Pagan community, by asking people that had enjoyed Hasfest in the past, the Samhain Rituals that we have held there and the Handfastings that they have attended there if they could find time to write a couple of sentences as to what the grove means to them to put before the council in a presentation, but compared to amount of folk coming along and enjoying these free events there has been very little response.  The lack of response is very disheartening  making the people who work very hard to put these events together, just to bring like minded people together and hoping create a sense of community, if it is really worth continuing at all, as a lot of time and their own money goes into preparing everything and getting it all ready.  So hey, best make this a good on and go out with a bang rather than a whimper!

If anyone is reading this who would like to help by sending in a short paragraph (or more) of what the grove and that area means to them there is still time as the council has put the date of the hearing back again.  Cherill is the person who is getting the presentation together and her email is -  cherill 57@btinternet.com
(there are no spaces in the email address, I've put one in to stop her getting spammed by bots) or contact her on  facebook/Hasfest
